DEFILING WORDS
Matt
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
What is that the Lord is saying? What comes out of our mouth defiles us. People keep talking and talking. We need to be careful with our words.
Ecc - 5:2
Be not rash with thy mouth... let thy words be few.
The words of our mouth has its effect in our lives. Whatever words we speak let us be careful. It should not be words of disbelief but words of faith that also edifies us as well as others.
1. Gen 14:22-24 DO NOT PRAISE MAN
Lest thou shouldest say, I have made rich...
Some people keep praising others for what they have done, or even to get something done. But we should praise only our God. It is true that we should be grateful to them but at the same time we should only give glory to our God and God alone.
2. Deut 8:17,18 DO NOT TAKE SELF PRIDE
...My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.
But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for we should be careful with our words again in not bringing/taking pride of what we do or earn. It is not because of our own strength but our God who strengthens us. If we have this self pride we cannot be blessed.
There are many who are not able to do work and earn. But when we keep praising God for his strength he will continue to shower his grace on us to work and earn wealth.
3. Deut 9:4 DO NOT DESIRE SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS
Speak not thou... for my righteousness the Lord hath brought me in to possess this land...
The Lord gave the promised land for the people of
Never say it is happening because of your righteousness. All that we have is given to us by our God. For all our righteousness and holiness is like filthy rags. Let us not be self righteous.
4. Prov
Say not thou, I will recompense evil...
Many say that they will do evil and take revenge but it should not be so, because vengeance belongs to God.
Prov 24:29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done...
Let us do good for evil, then the Lord will make our enemies to live peaceably with us. We should have forgiving nature and not that of taking revenging.
5. Eccl
Say not thou, what is the cause that the former days were better than these?
About the past days we always keep saying those days were better. But think that all times and days are always good. God has always given us good times and days. We should not keep looking into particular time and day. For all that God has made is good.
6. Jere 1:7 DO NOT SAY I AM A CHILD
But the Lord said unto me, say not I am a child...
When the Lord gives certain responsibility/ministry never say 'I am small'. When big responsibility and work is given never say you are immatured because it is our God who gives grace and wisdom to carry out everything victoriously, though we are unworthy for it. He will surely exalt us.
7. Matt
Whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of judgement... whoever shall say to his brother Raca shall be in danger of council.
Let us not judge or chastise our brethren using vain words because the Lord will hold us responsible.
8. Jam
Let no man say... I am tempted of God.
Satan tries to tempt us but it is our God who gives/makes way to escape. Use the Word of God to overcome the temptation. It is because of our mistakes that we might have problems and temptations. We need to examine ourselves before blaming God.
If we should not be using these words, then what words should we use?
As we read in
James 4:13-15
...for that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live and do this or that.
We must always remember God and say, by God’s will or God willing I will do this or that. Let us say by God's grace things happen.
