Divine Help II
Divine Help II
II Chronicles 14:11 'And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us,
O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.'
Here we read about the praye rof King Asa where he seeks the assistance of the Lord God. He did not depend upon his strength but he cried unto the Lord. Also Asa says
'LORD, it is nothing with thee to help'. Our Lord can make use of anything to help his children whether it be small or big. In Genesis 18:14 'Is any thing too hard for
the LORD?.' Our Lord is the one who will battle for us and it is nothing for the Lord to help us. Let us meditate on how the Lord helped his children by using certain
things in various situations.
Salt - Wholeness
II Kings 2:19-21 'And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught,
and the ground barren. And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him. And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast
the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.'
In the above verse, we see Elisha asks them to bring a bowl and puts salt into it. Salt is something which is not valued by anyone in this world. Here the Lord uses
this salt to work out a miracle for his children. The Lord uses the salt to turn all things that brought death and barrenness to that land into fruitfulness. In
II Kings 2:18, we can see the people were at Jericho and the place had things pertaining to death. Jericho which was once a prosperous land became barren and cursed.
In Joshua 6:26 'And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the
foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.' Here we see when the Lord destroyed the walls of Jericho, Joshua curses
them and that place remained cursed. This was the reason why the land was barren and cursed. It was a challenging situation for Elisha to change the curse of the land
of Jericho. Elisha uses the salt to heal the waters. This act of Elisha brought a peace and prosperity the people. The power of the Lord did its work for his children.
A new era of wholeness began for the children. The consequences of Joshua's curse was overturned by Elisha.
Stick - Restoration
II Kings 6:6 'And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim. Therefore
said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.'
Here we see the sons of the Prophet lost their axe into the water. When they informed Elisha on the same, he cut down a stick and puts them into the water. This made the
iron swim. The sons of prophet got back what they lost by the power of the Lord. In II Kings chapter 5, we can read about Gehazi who was not faithful to God. We can read
the punishment that he received because of his unfaithfulness. But in chapter 6, the power of the Lord works for the sons of prophet who was faithful to the Lord. The
Lord rewards his children for their faithfulness. We read in II Kings 6:1-2, the sons of the prophet included Elisha in the process of expanding the place where they
dwelt. They depended upon Elisha and insisted him to come along with them. They did not beleive in their power but they gave more importance to the man of God. Also
when Elisha asked them where they dropped their axe, they clearly told him where the axe fell. This shows they are clearly telling the truth to the man of God. They
cried out beacuse they lost their axe when they were toiling. The Lord saw their faithfulness and recompenses for their loss. Our Lord is the Lord who restores the
things that was lost.
Valley - Victory
II Kings 3:16-18 'And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches. For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet
that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts. And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will
deliver the Moabites also into your hand.'
We read 'this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD'. The Lord is giving a victory using ditches. When they made the valley according to the word of the Lord,
the Lord sent waters and brings in a victory to his children. These are not normal valleys but these are faith valleys. In II Kings 3:9 'So the king of Israel went, and
the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days' journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.'
It was a situations where there was no water and they were wearied. It was situation where they had to fight in the battle amidst sorrow as there was no water to drink.
The Kings of Israel, Judah and Edom joined along in fighting against the Moabites. It was a terrible situation for them as they were weary. How did the Lord help them?
We read in II Kings 3:15 'But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.' In this situation, they
worshipped according to Elisha's words. The Lord revealed and guided them what they need to do. The Lord gave them a great victory. When the Lord asked them to make a
valley of ditches when there was no water, they obeyed the word of the Lord. This was their act of faith. The power of the Lord worked out in such a way that not only
the valley of ditches but the entire land was filled with water. It is nothing for the Lord to bring a great victory through a valley of faith. Amen.
