Word of the Lord - 4

I Chronicles 17:3-4 'And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not

build me an house to dwell in:'

Here the word of the Lord came to prophet Nathan in order to conevy certain things to David. When we read chapter seventeen, we can understand that David had a desire

to build a house for the Lord. David shares his desires and burdens to the servants of the Lord. David might have had this feeling ever since the Lord chose him. David

wanted to do something for the Lord. When he shares his desires to the prophets, he was honoured and blessed. When David speaks his heart out, the Lord in return

shares his feelings. In I Chronicles 17:4-6 'Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in: For I have not dwelt in

an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another. Wheresoever I have walked with all

Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?' These passages we can

understand that the Lord reveals his frustrations.

Even in our lives, we should share all our burdens to our spiritual leaders who are guiding us. When we start to share everything to our God, he will also start

sharing a lot of things. When we are zealous for the things of the Lord like David, we will be blessed. Today, let us meditate how the word of the Lord lifted David

step by step according to the desires of his heart.

Established

I Chronicles 17:8-9 'And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the

name of the great men that are in the earth. Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be

moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning'

The passage explains how the Lord led David in the past. We see the Lord established his people. The Lord gave them a recognition and gave them a status symbol. The

Lord is a Lord who plants and establishes his children. The Lord walked along with his servant David as a shining armour from all the dangers. The Lord destroyed all

his adversaries and defeated giants like Goliath. When David felt lonely and helpess, the Lord supported him. We read in I Samuel 30:6 'And David was greatly

distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged

himself in the LORD his God.' The Lord comforted David and established his life. The Lord led David in different ways to plant him. Sometimes, our own family members

may come against us. During such difficult times, we need to encourage ourselves in the Lord. We should understand and believe that the Lord will establish our lives.

We read in Isaiah 49:1 'Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made

mention of my name.' The Lord who called his people from the womb has prepared a place for his people and enabled them to dwell there. Today, the Lord God will

plant us by giving us a permanent place to reside. He will establish us so that we do not wander. All we need to do is to have the desire the things of the Lord.

Declares

I Chronicles 17:10 'And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that

the LORD will build thee an house.'

This passage explains the things that the Lord is doing presently in the life of David. The Lord declares that Lord will build him a house. In the begining, David

wanted to build a house for the Lord but here the Lord declares that he will build a house for him. We read in II Samuel 7:1,11 'And it came to pass, when the king

sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest round about from all his enemies.And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have

caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.' In this verse we see that Lord commands peaceful rest and

blessed him. Right from the start David faced a lot of hurdles and battles. He faces Goliath, Absalom and many others. But the Lord declares he will subdue all his

enemeies. In II Samuel 7:12 'And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy

bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.' The Lord blessed the descendants of David. The blessing of the house represents the blessing of generations. Today, the

Lord declares that he will build a house of generations. His words will never fall. We might face contrary things in our lives but the declaration of the Lord will

never change.

Will enable to remain

I Chronicles 17:11 'And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which

shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.'

Here the word of the Lord came to David and reveals the things that will happen in the future. The Lord promised that he will enable the blessings to remain in our

hands. The Lord had established the past things, declared the present things and enabled things to remain in future. The word of the Lord speaks about Solomon even

during the time of David, the temple he will build and the steadfast kingdom of Solomon. The Lord speaks about how the Lord will be closely connected with the

generations following David and the majesty of his throne. This we read in I Chronicles 17:13-14 'I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take

my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee: But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be

established for evermore.' Previously, when we read in I Chronicles 17:11, the Lord refers 'his kingdom' but later in I Chronicles 17:14, the Lord refers as

'my kingdom'. The reason is because Solomon built a temple for the Lord and brought the kingdom of the Lord on this earth. It is important that we all spend more time

in the presence of the lord and may we continue a strong fellowship in Christ. When we have the desires for the things of the Lord, our lives will be planted by the

Lord. The hands of the Lord will continue to guide our generations and he will establish our lives. Amen.
