Word of the Lord - 1

II Kings 7:1 "Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria."

Here we see the word of the Lord came from the servant Elisha. When the word of the Lord comes out of Elisha, the situations were contrary. Even when the situations were unfavourable, the word of the Lord says the unbelievable.

When we read II Kings 3:1-3, the word of the Lord came during the reign of Joram who did evil in the eyes of the Lord. Today, the Lord us to fulfill his expectations by obeying the word of the Lord. We can see the word of the Lord

created a partition on how things were before and after the word of the Lord reaches the children. In II Kings 6:24-25, we can understand that there was a great famine in the land. This was the situation before the word of the Lord

came to his children. People were finding it very difficult coping up during that crucial situation where they experienced a financial crunch. There was a great economic struggle in the land with inflation. We can understand this

situation better when we read II Kings 6:33 'And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?' This verse

clearly tell us the impact of the temptation where people started losing the faith in God. During this situation, the word procceds from the Lord and changes the situation. Today, let us see how the word of the Lord changed the

situation and also the essential characteristics one should have to experience the same.

FAITH

II Kings 7:2 'Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt

not eat thereof.'

We learn that the word of the Lord started to reach out to his people right in the begining of chapter seven. The first thing that the Lord expects here is faith. The reason being, the word of the Lord will carry many unexpected

and unbeleivable things. In order to believe such words we need have divine faith. In the above passage we see this person finds it very hard to believe the word of the Lord. He went on to criticize the word of the Lord. Even

in our lives, we the children of the Lord must never criticize the words of the Lord. In II Kings 7:1 the word of the Lord came in such a way that it was not believable that this situation would change by this time tomorrow.

In times like these even when the word of the Lord seems to be unbelievable, we must have faith. We need to believe that nothing can stop the Lord from doing what he has purposed on us. We the children of the Lord need faith

to handle any kind of situation. Today, the Lord expects us to have faith in him when things go out of control. II Kings 7:16 'And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold

for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.' By reading this verse, we can understand everything happened exactly accoridng to the word of the Lord. Even in our lives, we might be

given under circumstances which can make us skeptical. Let us not disallow the words of the Lord and start to increase our faith.

DETERMINATION

II Kings 7:3-4 'And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die? If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die

there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.'

Here the Lord wanted to people to know the healing of these four leprous men. We see the four leprous men were determined and took a strong decision. Their firm determination changes the famine in the entire Samaria. Decision-making

is one of the pivotal things in the life of a person. These four men were not considered important by the society but they came to a situation where they took a brave decision. We read in II Kings 7:12 'And the king arose in the night,

and said unto his servants, I will now shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch

them alive, and get into the city.' Here we see the King did not believe anything but scripts it out in his own imagination. Due the wrong decision they were not able to receive the divine provision that the Lord had prepared. The syrians

came to know about the divine provision through these four leprous men. We come accross a similar situation in Esther 4:16 'and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.' The situation of

Esther was also crucial but she was determined to be courageous. Her dertermination brings liberty. Even in our lives, we should not be paralysed in acting on certain situations. We need to have a firm determination in the Lord to

experience the provision of the Lord. We must remain faithful and fearless towards our decisions during tough times.

MIRACLE

II Kings 7:6-7 'For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the

Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.'

When we have faith on the word of the Lord and are truly determined, we will see miracles. In the above passage, we see the Lord works out a victorious miracle. Just as the Lord said 'Tomorrow this time', the miracle happened. In this situation

the Lord brings a miracle through an illusion. The Lord made the four leprous men's voices to seem as a mighty roar of an army to work out this miracle. In order to experience miracles we should submit ourselves to the process. A process of

faith and determination. When the word of the Lord comes out during difficult situation, we must receive it and believe miracles. In Joshua 21:45 'There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all

came to pass.' All God's words will come to pass and none will be left unfulfilled. Even when enemies surrounded them, God fulfilled his promise in giving them Canaan. If the Lord has given us promises, he will be faithful to fulfill them.
