Abraham’s new way

Abraham’s new way

Genesis 12:1 ‘Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

In the above passage we see the Lord God asks Abraham to get out of his country. Abraham a gentile who lived in a strange land was chosen by the Lord. He was unaware of the plans that the Lord had on his life. Though Abraham had no clue about the next stage of his life, he obeyed the Lord God. In Genesis 12:4 ‘So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.’ Abraham blindly trusts in the Lord and did what the Lord has commanded him to do. Let us meditate on how the Lord led Abraham in his new way.

New Chapter

Genesis 17:1 ‘And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

Here the Lord said certain things to Abraham by appearing before him. Interestingly, when Abraham started his journey; he did not know that he was following a God who is an almighty God. When the Lord spoke about the new things to Abraham, he could not understand. We read in Genesis 17:18 ‘And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!’ When God speaks about the new chapter by blessing him with a new son, Abraham could believe all that but still he is worried about his son Ishmael.  Abraham who is full of age 99 years old and he thought to himself that everything has to come to an end and which is why he did not focus on the new chapter. Abraham thought that blessing his existing son Ishmael is much needed at the moment and that could be the conclusion. That is when the Lord almighty starts a new chapter in the life Abraham. Even in our lives, the Lord God will start a new chapter which we cannot imagine. The Lord is asking us to prepare ourselves to set our journey for the new chapter. Let us not fret over the old chapters in our lives.

New covenant

Genesis 17:10,19 ‘This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

Here we see the Lord makes a new covenant with Abraham. The Lord promises to give Isaac as his son and established a covenant of circumcision with him and his future generations. The Lord binds Abraham with a new covenant of circumcision and blesses him. In Old Testament through circumcisions people became the descendants of Abraham. In New Testament, we read in Colossians 2:11-12 ‘In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.’ These verses clearly state that we are made a holy congregation by going through the divine baptism. This is the covenant we have in our lives to lead a sacred life. All the victories that Jesus gained on his cross have been shared with each and every one of us. This we read in Colossians 2:15 ‘And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.’ We see Paul clearly lists out all the blessings of new covenant in Colossians 2:9-15.  We the children of God should confess and stand against the evil forces by the divine authority through the new covenant.

New Blessing

Genesis 18:14 ‘Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

We see a new blessing called Isaac. The key message of this verse is ‘Is anything too hard for the Lord. The Lord asks a question here in the passage and did not frame that as a statement.  When the Lord promised Sarah and Abraham about Isaac, they literally laughed out loud. The researchers claim that the Sarah laughed because she could not believe that blessing.  This is the reason asked a question is it not possible for me to do it? They did not believe on the ability of the Lord. But the Lord almighty gave them a blessing which is unique and exclusive. The Lord works out a new miracle for Sarah and Abraham and showed them his supernatural power. Even in our lives, the new path that God is about to lead us there are many new blessings. When we are in the divine covenant, the Lord assures us with many new blessings.

In Genesis 18:14 ‘...At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.  In the above verse we see the Lord appoints a time for the new blessing. The Lord will provide a divine declaration to his children. The Lord will hold our hands and will lead us until the very end. Today, the Lord almighty changes certain things in our lives and commands new blessings.  Amen.
