The glory of the Lord

The glory of the Lord

Exodus 14:4 ‘And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.

We see the people of Israel witnessed the glory of the Lord in their journey. They felt the glory of the Lord near the Red sea and were astonished on the leading of the Lord. The people of Israel witnessed the glory of the Lord at their difficult times. Generally during our trouble times, we might not realize the glory of the Lord is with us.  Even in our lives, we the children of God will receive the miracles from the Lord and we will witness the glory of the Lord. What is that the glory of God can do in our lives? Today let us meditate on how the glory of the Lord God dealt with the people of Israel and led them miraculously.

Shows he alone is the God

Exodus 14:4 ‘And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.

The above verse marks the day when the people of Israel leave the land of Egypt. But interestingly, we see the Lord delivers the people of Israel and also he hardens the heart of Pharaoh to follow them.  As recorded in the verse, the Lord makes him to chase his people only then he will be glorified and honored. The strong army of Pharaoh was made weak in front of the people of Israel. The Lord God strengthens his people and glorified his name. The path in which we go through will make us realize that the Glory of the Lord is with us. Even at this lockdown times, we might face a lot of crisis financially, but the Lord God will reveal his glory. The Lord will make the Pharaoh-like enemies lose in front of us.

Leading with a plan

Exodus 14:3 ‘For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in.

We see the people of Israel did not know all the plans that the Lord purposed on them.  The Lord had exclusive plans for the journey of the Israelites. The majestic presence of the Lord leads the people of Israel with a plan. In Exodus 14:2 ‘Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, over against Baalzephon: before it shall ye encamp by the sea.  Here the people of Israel did not understand the peculiar way that the Lord instructs them to move forward. We see the Lord made them camp by the sea. The Lord was very well aware of the intentions and plans of their enemies. He plans like a psychologists and plays in their minds. The Lord could have set their journey without making them camping by the sea. But the Lord plans in such a way that the children of Israel were chased by the hosts of Pharaoh so that he witnesses the glory of the Lord. This is why he hardens the heart of Pharaoh. We read this in Exodus 14:8 ‘And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.  Since they were camped by the sea, the enemies thought they cannot proceed further and can catch them.  But the enemies did not know that Lord of Israel is mighty enough to walk on the sea and can part the sea for his children.  The Lord parts the sea and makes his children walk on the dry land. Even in our lives, the Lord leads all of us with an exclusive plan.  We need to strongly believe that the Lord is performing his plan through each one of us.

Permanent victory

Exodus 14:13-14 ‘And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

The glory of the Lord brings in a permanent victory to the children of Israel. When the glory of the Lord is with us, we need not fight it out. The Lord himself will pitch in and battle for his children. The Lord commanded a permanent victory to his children just as he promised them in the above verse. In Exodus 14:16-17 ‘But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.’ The moment when the people witnessed the division of the sea, they thought it is all over. On the other hand the Lord made the hosts to chase the children of Israel so that his name is glorified upon the hosts of Pharaoh.

In Exodus 14:24,28 ‘And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians, And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.’ This passage signifies how the glory of the Lord dealt with the people of Israel miraculously. The Lord looked down and troubled the army of Egyptians. Even in our lives, the glorious hand of God will trouble them that trouble us. The Lord will look after our problems and will fight for our cause.  His glory will surely grant us a permanent victory.

Increases faith

Exodus 14: 31 ‘And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

Here we see the people of Israel witnessed the great works of the Lord. The miracles they experiences were great and super natural. When they saw the great works of the Lord, their faith on the Lord was increased. Even in our lives, our faith will be increased after the lock down period. We the children of the Lord will witness the great works of the Lord. Therefore, let us beseech the glory of the Lord in our lives. Amen.
