Lord God
Lord God
Promise verse - Deuteronomy 1:11 “The LORD God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as he hath promised you.”
In the above verse we can see the Lord God gives an important promise to the children of Israel. The mighty hands of the Lord God was not only guiding them in their journey but also gives them a divine promise. The word ‘Lord God’ or similar words have been mentioned three hundred times in the book of Deuteronomy. And this clearly signify how the hands of the Lord God has been guarding his children. The Lord leads the children of Israel in different paths in order to inherit all the blessings and promises which was reserved for them. Let us meditate on how the Lord God led them in their journey to inherit their blessings.
God’s presence
Deuteronomy 1:6 “The LORD our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:”
Here we see Moses begins to summarize by declaring the law to the children of Israel. By reading the above verse we can understand that the Israelites stayed in the presence of God for a very long time. And the place where they stayed is Mount Horeb which is also known as Mount Sinai. In Exodus 3:1 ‘Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.’ According to theologians, Mount Sinai was considered to be a holy mountain even before Moses was called into ministry. The children of Israel stayed in the presence of the Lord which shielded them from all dangers. Even in our lives, we need to stay in the presence of the Lord for a longer period. It is only through the presence of the Lord God, we can overcome our enemies. The children of Israel stayed in the presence of the God for a longer time which enabled them to move forward.
Turning point
We see the Lord God instructs his people to turn and lead their journey. The word ‘turn’ symbolically represents that the presence of the Lord alters the journey of the Israelites. The presence of the Lord brings a turning point in their lives. The Lord himself navigates and directs their path according to his plan. This is exactly reminds us on the calling of Moses. After his encounter with a burning bush, his entire life changes according to the plan of the Lord God. All of his plans were changed and the presence of the Lord prepares Moses for a divine calling. Same way, the presence of the Lord comes into picture and directs the Israelites. Today, the presence of the Lord will pitch in and will transform our lives.
Reign
By reading the above verse we can understand that the presence of the Lord God gives them a blessing to reign. This blessing is preformatted for the children of Israel. We can see that the Lord has kept the land before the people to possess it. In Deuteronomy 1:7 “Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.” In this passage, we can see the Lord instructs them to go up to the mount of the Amorites. According to the scripture, Amorites are their enemies but the Lord God asks the Israelites to go up their hill country. This signifies that the Lord wants to lift his children to the high places and also will take his children higher than their enemies.
As we read in Deuteronomy 1:8, the Lord promises that he will give them what was promised to their fathers. Even in our lives, it is very important that we the children of God must spend time in the presence of the Lord. When we do so, the Lord will not only give us the blessings that was promised to our fathers but also the blessings that our fathers could not receive. The presence of the Lord God will restore all the lost blessings for this children. Therefore, let us all submit ourselves into the presence of God to be guided and to inherit all the blessings in our lives. Amen.
