GIFTS OF THE HOLY GHOST

GIFTS OF THE HOLY GHOST

Acts 2:4 “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance

God the Father gave His only Son Jesus Christ as a gift to mankind. Jesus Christ inturn gave the Holy Ghost to us, when He returned to His Father after His mission here on earth. From then on the Holy Spirit took incharge of us and gave us many gifts. Those who received those gifts have witnessed many changes in their lives.

Let us look into some of the gifts of the Holy Ghost which are in store for those who have received the Holy Ghost.

1. Holy Ghost gives us strength to be His witness:

In Acts 1:8 we read,

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me, both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

When we receive Holy Ghost, we will receive the Spirit of power (strength) which will make us to live as His witnesses. All our weakness will melt away when the Holy Ghost dwells in us.

He has called us to be His witnesses. He strengthened us to be His witnesses. Being a Witness does not just mean testifying the miracles or good things which He has done to us but proclaiming that He is the only true and living God. We should be His witnesses in places where people dislike Christ and do not accept us and Christ until we become His martyrs.

2. Holy Ghost will give us boldness:

Acts 2:14 says,

“But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you and harken to my word”

Peter was a person among the disciples Christ who was afraid of everything. And that is the reason why he denied Christ fearing a servant girl (Matt 26:69, 70). But that same Peter, after receiving the Holy Ghost, addressed the people whom he feared at the beginning. The Holy Ghost gave him the spirit of boldness to stand up along with the eleven others boldly and proclaim Christ and preach the gospel. Similarly when we receive the Holy Ghost, He will gift us the spirit of boldness to face any group of people and face any problem.

3. Holy Ghost will give us the knowledge of the scripture:

In Acts 2:16 we read

“But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel”

Peter was an illiterate fisherman. He had no knowledge of the scripture. But when he had received the Holy Ghost he addressed people with boldness and preached the word of God with authority like a literate man. Over here we see him quoting Prophet Joel of the old testament of what he prophesied. When the Holy Spirit dwells in us He will give us better knowledge of the scripture. With this knowledge of the word of God we can fight against the temptations as Christ did by using God’s word. Without the knowledge of the Word of God, without His word dwelling in us we can never overcome Satan. Because the only weapon that Satan fears is God’s Word which has life. Let us grow more in His Word – our Sword to combat Satan.

4. Holy Ghost will give us Comfort:

In Acts 9:31 we read

“Then had the churches, rest throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria and were edified and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost were multiplied”

When the Word of God is in us, there will not be any frustrating moments in our lives. Even when we get into that situation, Holy Ghost will comfort us and will lead us. Because He is called the Comforter. No man in this world can comfort us. Only Holy Ghost can give the comfort because He is the Spirit of all comforts. He gives us peace and comfort that passes all understanding.

5. Holy Ghost will give us His Leading:

Acts 16:6,7 says,

“Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the regions of Galatia and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia. After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia but the Spirit suffered them not.”

Before the Holy Ghost was poured into the world, Apostles got to know the will of God only by way of casting lots. But after that the Holy Ghost was poured out, He lead them. He was the decision maker. They enquired Him and got the answers and sorted out their problems. Similarly, when we receive the Holy Ghost, He will lead us in the right path especially when we are in a state of confusion/dilemma.

Now let us give room for the Holy Spirit to take control of us and give us all the gifts we have just meditated.

May The Holy Ghost give us strength, boldness, knowledge, comfort and His leading.

God Bless You.
