Introduction   II Kings 20:1,7 “In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live. And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.”   In the above passages, we see Hezekiah was down with sickness. During his sickness period, Hezekiah chose to keep everything in prayer. It is truly an example for all of us to see as to how Hezekiah prayed while he was sick. In II Kings 20:3 ‘I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.’ In this verse we see Hezekiah wept bitterly in his prayer. He list down all his good attributes in his prayer. In his prayer, he highlights four key points. 1. His character 2. His faithfulness 3. His whole hearted devotion and 4. His good deeds. This is exactly what the Lord expects from his children. When Hezekiah submitted himself into the presence of the Lord, he was delivered. In verse seven, we see he was recovered from his sickness. As a part of today’s meditation let us meditate on the path that Hezekiah endured to receive this healing.   1. Miracle in the moment of death  II Kings 20:1 “In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death…”   The first part of this verse clearly reveals that Hezekiah was down with a deadly disease. The temptation of Hezekiah was severe and intolerable. But the Lord God miraculously delivers him. Even in our lives, we may walk near the borders of death and our situation might seem toxic. But the Lord of Hezekiah will never forsake us. The medicines and doctors might forsake us at the last moment, but the Lord God is faithful to deliver us. All we need to do is to put our trust on the Lord.   2. Miracle of household order  II Kings 20:1 “Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order...”   Over here we see the Lord asks Hezekiah to set everything in orderly manner at his place. The fact that his house was not in a proper shape bothered the Lord’s attention. Theologians believe that the right person was not chosen to succeed Hezekiah as the King. This created a confusion at his time. In this scenario, the Lord instructs Hezekiah to look after his household. The Lord gives a deliverance from all confusions and sets everything in order.   3. Miracle amidst grief   II Kings 20:1 “ ...for thou shalt die, and not live.”   The above passage signifies the plight of Hezekiah. Anyone who hears this kind of a statement will be surely shattered. This kind of a negative statement at the time of sickness will demotivate and depress us. It might trigger a lot of impact in our lives. When Hezekiah faces this statement, the Lord did not forsake him. The Lord did not let this negativity take over Hezekiah at any given point. The Lord almighty delivers Hezekiah out of his sorrow at the right time.  4. Miracle amidst weep  II Kings 20:3 “I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.”   The prayer of Hezekiah starts with ‘O Lord’ which signifies the severity of his sickness. We read in II Kings 20:2 ‘Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying,’ Hezekiah did not wanted to face anyone at that time as he turned his face to the wall and wept. His suffering was unbearable. When Hezekiah was going through tough times, the eyes of the Lord was on him. The Lord knew Hezekiah very well. In II Kings 18:4-5 ‘He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan. He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.’ The Lord knew all that Hezekiah was doing all these while and the Lord has purposed a divine plan on him. This is the main reason why the Lord delivered him from his sickness. As we read in Psalm 118:17 ‘I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.’ Hezekiah was destined to live and not to weep.   5. Miracle in an unbelievable situation    II Kings 20:6-8 “And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake. And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered. And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day?”    In the above passage we see how the Lord God dealt with Hezekiah miraculously. The Lord added fifteen years of life term to Hezekiah. The Lord also delivers and defends Hezekiah. In II Kings 20:11 ‘And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.’ The Lord also shows him signs so that he could believe that he was fully recovered. Though Hezekiah walked near a deadly situation, he was delivered at the last moment.
