SUNDAY SERMONS

EASTER SERMON

Matthew 28:6 “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

The above passage marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ and it acts as a testimony that Christ has fulfilled what he has said. The tomb of Jesus is the only tomb in this earth that is empty. This Easter let us meditate on the blessings that Christ’s resurrection has brought us.

An unexpected Miracle

Mark 16: 1-4 “And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.

The above passage we can read that Mary and others came to put some spice in the tomb of Jesus. When they started, they had a problem that who will push the stone away. The stone that is used to close the tomb of Jesus was more or less like an obstacle for them. They were so worried as to how they would enter in. In verse four, we can see that the stone was rolled away when they came near the tomb. This is an unexpected miracle for them. Even before they reached the tomb, our Lord Jesus has solved their problem.

We see they started early in the morning to reach the tomb of Christ. This shows their level of edification and the unparalleled amount of love they had on Christ. In Matthew 28:2 ‘And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.’ We see a divine miracle took place early in the morning as the angel descended down and rolled the stone away. We read in Matthew 28:8 ‘And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.’ When they witnessed all these signs, they were filled with joy. They ran and proclaimed the divine working of Christ. Even in our lives, we do have big stone like obstacles that stands in between. Today, the power of the resurrected Christ will roll away all the stones in our lives. We will witness the unexpected miracles from the hands of God.

Promises will fulfill

Matthew 28:6 “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Our Lord and savior Jesus Christ rose from the dead and fulfills exactly what he has promised to his children. We read in Luke 24:7-8 ‘Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words, And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

Here we see they remembered the words of Christ regarding his resurrection. When they recalled the words, they informed it to the people around them. But at that point of time, people did not seem to believe the words of God. The words of resurrection did not make any sense to them. But at the appointed time, Christ did resurrect and fulfilled his promise. The people were astonished to witness his resurrection. Our Lord Jesus won the death and rose again for his children. Even in our lives, the resurrected Christ will fulfill all our promises and we will inherit all the blessings.

Surprises will take place

Luke 24:41 “And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

After the resurrection, people see him directly in person. They literally witnessed the resurrected Christ and they were spell bound to see him. The people were so surprised to see the Christ. We read in Luke 24:16,32 ‘But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?’ Here we see the Christ himself comes down and explains the scripture so that they were able to understand certain things. In Matthew 28:19-20 ‘Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.’ Our Lord Jesus teaches the people for one last time and assigns a divine purpose to them. We the children of God should make it a point to spread the doctrine of Christ to whole world. May the resurrected Christ lead us and bless us abundantly. Amen.
