SUNDAY SERMONS

A Year of the Lord of Hosts-10

Psalm 46:7 “The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

This year will be the year of the Lord of hosts. When we the say that the Lord of hosts is with us, we mean that we are not alone. We have an army of God right beside us. We the children of God will never be afraid of anything that comes against us. We have the Lord of hosts to battle it out for us this year. The Lord of hosts is giving us the divine strength to conquer all the issues in our lives.

Looked upon her

I Samuel 1:11 ‘And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.’

In the above passage we can read about the prayer of Hannah. Her heart goes out to the Lord of hosts and requests him to remember her. We see Hannah keeps everything in prayer in I Samuel 1:10 ‘And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.’ The Lord looked upon the afflictions of Hannah and also the mockery that she faced by the people around. Our God changes the life of Hannah. Today, let us continue meditating on the blessings when the Lord looks upon his children.

Removes the weeds

Isaiah 18:4-5 “For so the LORD said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest. For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches.”

In the above passage we see the prophecy of Isaiah. In verse 5, we can see the act of removal of weeds. This act of removing weeds refers to the act of cleansing in spirituality. The Lord of hosts is looking forward to remove certain things and to purify our lives. The act of removing the weeds is more or less like trimming ones hair. In our lives, there might be many things that are insignificant and that requires a removal. These weed like things will be a sheer hindrance to obtain the blessings of the Lord. There will be situations where those weeds will eat our peace and income. It will not help us function normally. These weeds could be a cell phone or maybe even a television. These might seem small but they will slowly eat our happiness. Today, the Lord of hosts has come to perform a cleanup in our lives. Therefore, we will have to ask our Lord God to show those weeds in our lives and to remove them. Let us not give room for these weeds to slowly feed on us. When we allow our Lord of hosts to remove the weeds, we will be blessed with prosperity.

Period of removal of weeds

In Matthew 13:27-30 “So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

In the above passage we see the reason for the growth of these weeds. We might be wondering why we are going through certain things in our lives. We might have no clue how certain unnecessary elements have entered in our lives. Here, the Lord Jesus himself confirms that Satan is the root cause as he plants these weeds in our lives. Our Lord God promises that he will pitch in at the right time and removes all these weeds. We will be given a life of prosperity after going through this bitter experience of weeds.

Time of removal of weeds

Isaiah 18:4 “For so the LORD said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.

Even in our lives, it might seem our Lord is not helping us during hard times. We might think our prayers are not answered. During those trying times, we need to make believe that our Lord almighty is watching over us. The Lord God will never let any harm happen to his children. When our Lord is silent, it means he is working to get all the weeds removed in our lives. In Daniel 2:21 ‘And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:’ This verse confirms and reassures that our Lord God is mighty enough to change times and kings for our sake. The Lord of hosts will remove these weeds and gives us a happy life. Therefore, let us all surrender ourselves to the Lord of hosts to remove all those unpleasant weeds in our lives. Amen.
