SUNDAY SERMONS

The Lord Almighty-3

Introduction

Genesis 17:1 "And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect."

Over here we see that the Lord God introduces himself as an Almighty God. The Hebrew word 'Elshaddai' would mean the Lord almighty. In the above passage we see the Lord who is an almighty God makes a covenant to Abraham. In Genesis 17:2 'And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.' Here our Lord promises to bless Abraham in a multiplied manner. The hands of the Lord almighty blessed the entire generation of Abraham. Even in our lives, the almighty will remove all the hindrances and bless us. We the children of God will experience the power of the almighty in our lives.

Gives revelations

Genesis 35:11 "And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;"

In the above passage we see the Lord almighty speaks to Jacob. The Lord reveals himself to Jacob as an almighty God. Our Lord gives promises to Jacob concerning his generation. The Lord almighty explains the blessings that are prepared in the life of Jacob. Even in our lives, we need to firmly believe in the fact that the Lord has plans concerning us. Since Jacob fulfils the expectations of our Lord almighty, he obtains the blessings in abundance. Let us see the how the almighty Lord led Jacob in order to obtain the blessings that were prepared for him.

Back to Bethel

Genesis 35:1 "And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother."

Here we see the Lord instructs them to return to Bethel. The reason we read in Genesis 28:17,19 'And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.' We see the word Bethel means the house of the Lord. Jacob was wandering and he was not in the place where he was supposed to be. Therefore, the almighty instructs him to return to Bethel. Even in our lives, we might be wandering. We might not be in a place where our almighty wants us to be. We the children of God should question ourselves asking, Are we in Bethel? Are we wandering? We must never ever afford to wander somewhere putting aside the plan of God. We read in Proverbs 27:8 'As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.' Let us not be like a bird that wanders from its nest. We should know our spiritual position and we must stay in the place where the Almighty has rooted us.

Return to the vision

Genesis 35:1 "And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother."

Over here we see the Lord God wants Jacob to return to his vision. When we read the above passage, we can clearly understand how the Lord almighty instructs him. Even in our lives, we tend to back slide from our spiritual visions. Today, we need to beseech God to leads us according to his divine vision in our lives. Let not anything divert us from the vision that the Lord God has given us.

Return to the dedication

Genesis 35:1 "And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother."

We see Jacob has makes a vow to the Lord God. We read in Genesis 28:20-22 'And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.' Unfortunately, Jacob forgets his vow as the days go by. Even in our lives, we are most likely to forget all our vows soon after we receive the blessings of the Lord. But in the life of Jacob, we see the Lord starts to bless him only when he returns to his dedication. We the children of God should make it a point to fulfill all our vows truthfully. May the Lord almighty give us grace that we should fulfill our vows and stay dedicated to the almighty Lord.

Return to holiness

Genesis 35:4 "And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem."

When the Lord almighty starts to bless Jacob, his life undergoes a sanctification. All the insignificant and wrong doings in his life were purged completely. All the unpleasing areas in the life of Jacob were purified. We need to understand that the major expectation of our Lord God is the holiness. We the children of God are expected to be sacred in all ways. This is the secret of a successful Christian life. In Genesis 35:7 'And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.' Here, he builds an altar and names it Elbethel. Let all our lives become Elbethel (The house where God is) and blessed abundantly by the hands of the almighty Amen.
