The Lord Almighty

Introduction

Genesis 17:1 "And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect."

Over here we see that the Lord God introduces himself as an Almighty God. The Hebrew word 'Elshaddai' would mean the Lord almighty. In the above passage we see the Lord who is an almighty God makes a covenant to Abraham. In Genesis 17:2 'And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.' Here our Lord promises to bless Abraham in a multiplied manner. The hands of the Lord almighty blessed the entire generation of Abraham. Even in our lives, the almighty will remove all the hindrances and bless us. We the children of God will experience the power of the almighty in our lives.

I He fulfills the promises

Genesis 18:14 "Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son."

Here we see the almighty starts his work in the life of Abraham. In the above passage we see the Lord God questions Abraham and promises that he is able to work out any miracle for him. This promise gets fulfilled in Genesis 21:2 'For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.' We see our Lord God sets an appointed time for Abraham and he blesses him at the right time. Even in our lives, our Lord might have given us lot of promises, but all we need to do is to wait for the right time.

We read in Genesis 17:17 'Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?' Also in Genesis 18:12 'Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?' In these two passages we see both of them laughed on hearing the promise from the almighty. Interestingly, there is a difference in their laughter. Abraham laughs on hearing the good news from the Lord God whereas Sarah laughs out of carnal disbelief. As a result, the anger of the Lord mounts on Sarah and not on Abraham. Even in our lives, we should never laugh at our promises given by our Lord almighty. It might seem that it takes more time for the promise to be fulfilled. But when we wait in the presence of the Lord, he will fulfill all our promises. Today, the Lord almighty is going to strengthen our faith and he will surely fulfill his promises.

II He will lead us

Genesis 28:3 "And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;"

Over here we see the Lord almighty blesses Jacob with a blessing of increase. We see our Lord almighty leads him in a mighty way. In Genesis 27:42 'And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.' Here we see Jacob had a problem with his own brother. And that kept Jacob running hither and thither.

In Genesis 27:43,45 'Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran; Until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?' Jacob was in a situation where he was not able to live with his parents. But the almighty God had a purpose behind the situation. In Genesis 28:31, Jacob had a temptation with Laban and in Genesis 32:33 he faces a temptation with Esau. Despite of all these temptations, the hands of the almighty was with Jacob. When we read Genesis 24:1-9, we can see how he chose the bride according to the will of the Lord. Jacob surrenders himself to the will of the Lord. Our Lord God met Jacob and made him take decision of his own. It took him twenty years for Jacob to experience the act of submission. We read in James 4:14-15 'Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.' Even in our lives, we should submit our lives completely to the will of the Lord and he will lead us into the right path.

Amen!
