SUNDAY SERMONS

A Guiding God

Introduction

Exodus 13:21 "And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night"

We all know that our Lord God led the entire crowd of the Israelites to the Promised Land. When the Lord led them in the wilderness, they had to go through a lot of challenges. The above verse clearly points out that Lord leads them by a pillar of fire and cloud all the way. Today, as a part of meditation let us see what are all the things that the pillar of fire and cloud did to the people of Israel.

Leads in the right path

Exodus 23:20-21 "Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him."

Over here we see the Lord God leads the people in the right path. The way that our Lord Jesus leads us will be the way that directs us to his blessings. The blessings that our Lord purposed to give us will be something which is more than our imagination. In Exodus 13:17-18 “And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt: But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.” We see our Lord God did not guide the children of Israel in the shortest path but he chose a different path instead. Our Lord God knew that the wilderness way will be a long route but when he made the entire journey easy for his children. Even in our lives when our Lord God leads us, he will make things easy for us. Our Lord God makes the wilderness way into a way of prosperity for the children of Israel. When our Lord guides us it will be a way filled with wonders.

Fight for us

Exodus 14:14 "The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace."

When we the children of God make it a point to hold our peace during troublesome situations, our Lord God fights for us. In Exodus 14:19,24 ‘And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,’ the above passages clearly points out how the Lord will battle it out for his children. Our Lord Jesus will always be ready to fight for his children at the time of danger. Even when we are surrounded by dangers, the hands of the Lord will be with his children and save them.

Carry us

Isaiah 63:8-9 "For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour. In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old."

Over here we see how our Lord God carried his children of Israel. Our Lord carried them in such a way that their sandals were not worn out and their legs were not swollen. As our Lord God trusts his children and stays faithful to them, same way even we should make it a point to be truthful to him. In Isaiah 63:10 ‘But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.’ But the people broke his trust and betrayed. Their acts vexed the spirit of God. We should always remember how the Lord God has been carrying us and lifted us when we are in a low state. Today, our Lord God will carry us like a mother and guides us.

Talks face to face

Exodus 33:11 "And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle."

Here we see that Our Lord speaks to Moses face to face in the wilderness. We can also see that he gives them counselling in the wilderness. In Psalm 99:6-7 'Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the LORD, and he answered them. He spake unto them in the cloudy pillar: they kept his testimonies, and the ordinance that he gave them.’ Our Lord is the one who answers to his children. This month will be a month where our Lord Jesus will talk face to face and he will answer us. We read in Exodus 3:4 'And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.' As our Lord God calls Moses by his name, same way he will call us and talk to us face to face. The Lord almighty will take us to the place that was prepared for us. The divine hands of the Lord is guiding us today and it will guide us forever. Amen. God bless you!
