The Blessings of The Cross (GOOD FRIDAY MESSAGE)

The Blessings of The Cross

Today, let us mediate on the point of how the Cross of Christ will change our lives and will bring us blessings.

And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center.
John -19:17, 18

Christ carried His own cross and went to a place called Golgotha and there He was crucified.  We should not read the Bible as a history, But should read it with reference.  Science says that crucifixion of Jesus on the Cross is the most horrible punishment ever known.  The nails used for crucifixion were around 6 to 8 inches.  These nails were not nailed in His palms but in His wrists. While hanging on the Cross, he suffered extreme pain which men would not dare to experience. It was very hard for Him to even take a breath.  These sufferings lasted for three full hours; nails on his legs, crown of thorns on his head, and carrying a cross weighing almost 30 kgs for about 2 kms.  But we know that all these sufferings and pains are for us in order to lead us to Heaven. He experienced much pain and died for us on the cross.  He shed all His blood and water of His body due to the agony.

BETRAYED

Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.
Matthew 26:49

Judas, whom Christ trusted, betrayed him by kissing Him.  Jesus kept Judas with Him wherever He went and even the money purse of Christ was with him.  Yet he betrayed Christ for that worthless money.  Likewise, we may be betrayed by our beloved ones.  But God says, He is going to keep us as a blessing for the whole of mankind as Christ was.

LONELINESS

But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.

But Peter followed Him at a distance to the high priest’s courtyard.  And he went in and sat with the servants to see the end.
Matthew 26:56, 58

The disciples deserted Christ and fled from him and all these happened according to the Scriptures.  Jesus was alone when everybody left him.  But even when He was left alone God was with him.  We may be having a lot of friends or relatives but during our troubled situations they may leave us or flee from us.  But our God never leave us or forsake us.  He will always be with us, and hold us in times of our troubles and will keep us as a blessing for the world as Christ was.

BACK STABBED

Then he began to curse and swear, saying, “I do not know the Man!” Immediately a rooster crowed.
Matthew 26:74

Peter was in the courtyard following Christ at a distance.  He denied with the people around him that he never knew Christ as he was afraid to show himself as Christ’s disciple.  Even he cursed Christ and swore to them that he did not know Christ. Christ was left back at that time.  Stabbed at a very pathetic condition, Jesus was left alone.  Are we in this sort of situation? We are going to be a blessing for others, says our God.

MOCKED

When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head.
Matthew 27:29, 30

Here we see the Son of God was mocked by the Roman soldiers.  He was crowned with thrown, stripped and dressed with a scarlet robe and with a staff in His hands.  He was teased, spat, and mocked by the soldiers.  If we are in the same situation of people mocking us, God will change the situation and will bless us.

CHANGE IN CLIMATE

Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land.
Matthew 27:45

There was change in the climate from the 6th hour till the 9th hour.  When Jesus was hanging on the cross, there was darkness everywhere.  This was because God did change the climate, altered the environment to show that Christ is His Son.  Are we in such a change of our situation to worst, which we do not desire? God is going to bring a great change in our worst situations.  The environment which we live may be unpleasant to us but at the correct time God will change them to a pleasant one.  Things will be changed by God and we will be a blessing to others.

CHANGE IN BELIEF

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split,
Matthew 27:46, 51

We see Christ giving up His life in the hands of God in the 9th hour.  At that time, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.  Top refers to the dwelling place of God, the Heaven whereas the bottom, the living place of men.  All the beliefs of the Jews were shattered as the veil of the temple was considered very important by them.  In our life, beliefs of others regarding us are going to be changed by our God.  People will be astonished to see the sudden and drastic change in your life while God lifts you up and will praise and magnify God. All the negative beliefs regarding your life are going to get changed.

CHANGE IN OBSERVATION

How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?”
Matthew 26:54

At the last moment, there was earthquake and there were miracles happened while Christ was still on the cross.  The centurion who was standing there got terrified and confessed that Jesus is the Son of God. Likewise we are going to be lifted up and to be elevated high by God.
