DIVINE JOURNEY (20-jan-2013)

DIVINE JOURNEY

“And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba,

and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac.”

Genesis 46:1

We see in this verse the life history of Jacob.  He was found in a situation where he had to offer sacrifices to God since his beloved son Joseph was alive and well.  At the same time, he was also filled with sorrow and confusion since he had to move out of the blessed land and settle in Egypt.

Jacob’s journey is the topic for the day’s meditation and we would see how he was found in the sight of God and how God changed his journey which he thought to be an ordinary one into a Divine One.

1.         DIVINE WORSHIP

“So Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba,

and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.”

Genesis 46:1

Jacob started his journey by going to Beersheba and worshiped God before he went to Egypt.  He wanted to meet the Lord not only to offer sacrifices but also to give praise and glorify Him.  Because of that God made his worship a Divine one.

Like Jacob we also ought to seek the Lord before starting a new thing.  Just as we read in Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you” we need to give first preference to Him alone.  Begin a new day at the feet of the Lord and you will see God making that day a Divine One.  We also need to remember our Lord before we do anything and give Him thanks.  Then God’s presence will fill us and make our worship Divine.

2.         DIVINE CALLING

“And God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night,

and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I.”

Genesis 46:2

Jacob sacrificed to God, worshipped Him and left the place.  But God called Jacob by his name in the visions of the night.  It would be an excellent feeling when God calls someone by name.  What God meant when he called Jacob by his name was that he wanted to show that he is with him all the time.

Our God is a God who knows our name and calls us by our name.  We need to desire for the Lord to call us by our name since it would mean that we are in His mind. When we sit in the presence of God and worship Him, He will reveal His Divine calling to us.

3.         DIVINE CONFIRMATION

“And He said, I am God, the God of your father: fear not to go down into Egypt;

 for I will there make of thee a great nation.”

Genesis 46:3

God made His presence unto Jacob, called him by name and spoke with him clearly.  He showed Jacob the things he was experiencing were predestined and were happening according to His purpose.  Thus He confirmed the exile of Joseph in Egypt and Jacob’s travel to that place is according to His plan.  Here he gives Jacob a Divine Confirmation.

God would have given many promises to you.  But you might be wondering whether those promises are meant for you and will they get fulfilled in your lives? Today, He confirms that He is the one who is leading you and He will fulfil all the words He has spoken to you.

4.         DIVINE COMFORT

“And He said, I am God, the God of your father: fear not to go down into Egypt;

 for I will there make of thee a great nation.”

Genesis 46:3

Jacob was still in a confused state when God confirmed his journey.  God also gave comforting and encouraging words to Him that he would become a great nation in a foreign land.  Yet Jacob did not start the journey without getting confirmation from God.  God gave Divine Comfort for Jacob who was confused.

Never make any decision without the permission of the Lord.  Whether to shift your house or to go to a particular place, befriending someone, changing job, and so on... do it with His confirmation.  Then Lord’s Divine comfort will fill us and we will be blessed in a royal way.

5.         DIVINE SECURITY

“And He said, I am God, the God of your father: fear not to go down into Egypt;

 for I will there make of thee a great nation.”

Genesis 46:3

God also provided Jacob Divine Security by comforting him.  He told him not to fear since He is going to be with him in all the situations.

Our God is the one who will hold our hands and lead us.  He will surround us when we do all things after seeking His presence.  He will give His Divine security and protect us.

6.         DIVINE REVELATION

“I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.”

Genesis 46:4

God gave Jacob revelation about the future that his descendants will inherit Canaan the promised land after coming out of Egypt.

Even for our life journey God will give a clear revelation.  The major difference between the heathen people and Christians is that heathen do not know the end of a particular situation but Christians very well know that their end is in the hand of God.  He will give His Divine Revelation and make everything clear and known unto them.  As promised, God will make of us a great nation when we seek Him always.

7.         DIVINE ENDING

“I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.”

Genesis 46:4

God told Jacob about his future of how his end is going to be and where he will die.  A Divine Ending was given for Jacob.

Many might be worried as to how they are going to end this year or how the particular problem is going to get solved.  But God who commands a Divine Ending will command a peaceful and perfect end for you and will make you inherit His promises.

8.         DIVINE DEPARTURE

“And Jacob arose from Beersheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob

 their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons

which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.”

Genesis 46:5

Only after getting the divine intervention, Jacob started his journey.  His start is called the Divine Departure since he started his journey with God on his side.

We also need to get Divine Intervention from God and start a particular task.  Then that will be a Divine Departure and God will make that task fruitful.
