SUNDAY SERMONS

BLESSINGS OF GOD (September 16, 2012)

When I was reading on Proverbs the Lord showed me certain important revelations of His blessings.  So we are going to meditate those God-given blessings today.

1.    RICHES
Proverbs 19:14 Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.

There are blessings which satan give when we slide away from God.  It seems as though the Lord is blessing but whatever satan gives it will be for our downfall.  Here in this proverb Solomon talks about a prudent wife as a blessing.  He had many wives yet I hope no one was prudent enough for him.
There are certain blessings which are not only given by God but are gifted by Him.  Once people made a research regarding the richest people of the world and they found that most of the rich people were found to be non-Christians.  But when they carefully examined their history they found out that their forefathers were Christians.  So because of the faithfulness of their forefathers their descendants are being blessed even today.

Perhaps you might be saying, “I am faithful to God but there is no answer from Him.  Kindly know that God never forgets even the smallest sacrifice you made for His Namesake.  He will surely bless you according to His word.  There is a great difference between the rich people of the world and God’s children.  Though they have enough wealth their soul cannot be saved.

But for us Bible says in 3 John 2, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”  When your soul prospers, all other blessings will come in hand.  So we are more blessed than the secular people since we get both secular and spiritual blessings.  We are rich since God is speaking to us and He is going to gift us with riches as our inheritance.  We need to pray to God for his Grace to make us humble even if we receive many riches.  We should not forget God once we are blessed.  Rather we should praise Him with a thankful heart.

Prayer:  Lord, please give me the riches that come from you as a gift.  I promise you that I will never forget you even I am blessed with many riches.  I will be humble as always and will be faithful to you ever.  Thanks.

2.    HELP
Psalm 37:39 - But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in the time of trouble.

The Hebrew word for salvation is (tesh – oo – aw) which means rescue, deliverance, help, safety, victory, salvation, and so on.. Here salvation means help from the Lord.  So what do you think is help?  When a person could not come out of a particular situation on his own, he needs a help.  Old people need a helping hand.  At times we might face accidents but when we call on to God on those situations, He will come to us as a sure help.  There are many testimonies of people even today regarding the helping hand of God when in trouble.

People in India call the number 108 for an emergency situation or for an ambulance.  But we Christians should call Matthew 10:8 which says, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons.  Freely you have received, freely give.”  Our help comes from the Lord who created Heaven and Earth.  Men might have a desire to help you but could not because of their inefficiency.  But God will not expect any conditions.  He will keep sending His help to whoever accepts Him and calls on to Him.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, I am in a situation where men could not help me.  I strongly believe that You are the one who can help me.  Kindly come down and help me.  Thank you.

3.    ANSWER
Psalm 109:20 - Let this be the Lord’s reward to my accusers, and to those who speak evil against my person.

To understand this verse we need to read the full chapter of Psalm 109.  Psalm 109:4 says, “In return for my love they are my accusers, but I give myself to prayer.”  You might move along with people for good but they look your friendship in an evil way.  For them, whatever good we do will seem wrong.  So you might lament why I should love them since they take my love the other way.

David gave himself unto prayer when his enemies mistreated him in return for his good.  This is the good remedy and a good formula of God.  So wherever you face a situation that provokes your anger, kindly go to your inner room and pray.  When David prayed in this adverse situation God answered him and met with the people who did evil to David and answered his prayer immediately.  Perhaps you might be in the same situation of being insulted for good.  Instead of taking drastic decisions, go to your room close the door and pray.  That prayer will get answer immediately.  It will make those adversaries to come and ask you for your forgiveness and they will reconcile with you.

Prayer:  Lord, from now on I will not get angry with people who insult me in return for my good.  But I will come to your presence.  You answer my prayer and make me a blessing before the eyes of my adversaries.  Thank you.

4.    CHILDREN
Psalm 127:3 - Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.

As we see here in this verse, children are the heritage from the Lord, in other words, an inheritance from the Lord.  So we need to always look at them as a blessing from the Lord.  Children are the greatest inheritance from the Lord above all the blessings we receive from Him.  So do not use negative words or curse children.  Whatever comes from the mouth of the parents will be fulfilled in the children’s life.

Proverbs 13:24 says, “He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly.”  So when you discipline your children with a rod it is good.  But you will do more good to your children when you love them.  So love your children always and pray to God for their blessings.  If you believe God for His blessing He will do so to your children.  It is the faithfulness of God that makes His promises to be fulfilled accordingly.  Even though His blessings get delayed they will reach just in time.

Prayer:  Lord, kindly bless my children who again are your blessings to me.  Kindly give me your Grace to nurture them.  Thank You.

5.    WORDS
Proverbs 16:1 - The preparations of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.

Some people might not answer the way others expect.  Their answer will make others angry.  Sometimes people might not understand what to speak in a particular place.  Even the Minister of God might not have the wisdom to talk in the pulpit.  Some others might talk about death in marriage ceremonies.  We might plan many things in heart but God alone needs to teach us what to speak in public.

Matthew 10:19, 20 says, “But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak.  For bit will be given to you in that hour what you should speak.  So God will give us His words and bless us accordingly.”  There are people who wait for our words to catch us red-handed.  But God will enable us to speak right at that particular time so that we might not fall in their hands.  Lord will instruct us to speak right word at the right time.  Then people will praise your words as though they are the words of God.

Prayer:  Lord, I come to know that the answer of the tongue is from You.  Please keep your word in my tongue.  I should never speak the way man speaks.  People should recognize You in my speech.  Thank You.

6.    JUDGMENT
Proverbs 16:33 - The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.

The word ‘decision’ in Hebrew is “Mishpat” which has got many interpretations like verdict, suit, crime, justice, privilege, determination, discretion, disposing, judgment, order, ordinance and so on.  It all centers around one thing, the judgment.

Perhaps we might have many options in our hand to decide.  But the decision comes from the Lord.  We would be thinking of a particular situation of how it is going to end.  It might be a court case or some other thing.  But God says, “I am the Judge of all things and without My will no word will proceed from the mouth of the court judge.”

Our Lord will give the just judgment.  Men may curse you for many things but God will judge you righteously.  It is the God above who has written good verdict about my future.

Prayer:  Lord, I pray to give me a righteous verdict.  Men might say many evil things about me but I know you will judge me righteously.  Thank You for doing so Lord.

7.    VICTORY
Proverbs 21:31 - The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance is of the Lord.

Perhaps you might be preparing very hard for a project presentation or an exam preparation.  But God desires that our trust should be on Him alone.  You will never get victory when you trust in the preparations.  According to the Bible unless the Lord builds your preparation is vain.

Some might say that they have raised their children in a good way and so their children will take care of them in the future.  Some might even say they have enough money in their hand for their future or to build a house or to perform a marriage.  But only when the Lord allows victory to come in your life it will happen.  Otherwise your perspirations are vain.

You might have put much capital in the business.  You might have good speech and with that you think you might gain many good things.  But only when you trust God you will prosper in whatever you undertake.  God desires to put your entire trust on Him alone.  So trust God and gain victory.

Prayer:  Lord, I trust in You alone in order to gain victory even though I have lots of options in life.  I know that all my perspirations are vain when I do not trust You.  Kindly give me victory in all my sufferings.  Thank You.
