Miracles at the last moment -2

Miracles at the last moment -2

Proverbs 21:31 “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.”

In the above passage we see the horse is prepared for the big day. But the victory comes from the hands of the Lord. In our lives, we may not be having any signs of miracle, but the Lord God will give us victory at the last moment. The Lord will supply all our needs at the right time.

As part of our meditation, let us see the miracles that took place at the last moment.

I Miracle over the Amalek

Exodus 17:11 “And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

Here we see when Moses lifted up his hand, the Lord God starts working out his miracle. In Exodus 17:12 ‘But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.’ We see Aaron and Hur stayed the hands of Moses so that they were steady until the dusk. The people of Israel wanted to overcome the Amalekites as they did awful things against the will of God.

This we read in I Samuel 15:2-3 ‘Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt. Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.’ We see the Amalekites not only went against God but they also despised the birthright. In Genesis 36:12 ‘And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau's son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these were the sons of Adah Esau's wife.’ Amalekites were the generations of Esau who provoked the blessings of the Lord God. Amalek will always be hindering the blessings from the Lord.

Exodus 17:9 ‘And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.’ Here we see Moses intercedes for his people in the mountain. And he builds an altar and names it Jehovah Nissi. We read this in Exodus 17:15-16 ‘And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi: For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will havewar with Amalek from generation to generation.’ Moses had set the Lord himself as his banner of victory and he knew through him alone they will prevail the Amalekites. The faith and the prayer of Moses brings in the victory for the Israelites at the last moment.

II Miracle of Solomon becoming a King

I Kings 1:11 “Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?

We see Solomon had to go through many obstacles to become the King of the nation. David did not take any effort on making Solomon the next King after him. As a result, Adonijah tries to seize the King’s throne. But the Lord changes the entire situation in the last minute and makes Solomon the King of Israel.

In I King 1:1 ‘Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.’ Due to his age and illness, David was not in a position to fulfill his duties as a King. The Satan capitalizes this situation and works against the kingdom. This made Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king over Israel. And he was not given a caution or a proper guidance on his decision to be the King. We read in I Kings 1:6 ‘And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom.’ The father of Adonijah did not chide him for his decision. And he fails as a father in that situation.

On the other hand, David was not aware of all the things that is happening around his throne. In I Kings 1:11-12 ‘Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not. Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.?’ Here we see they did not want Adonijah to take the throne of the King. As David seem to be of full age and dim of understanding, they decide to go the his chamber to re confirm his words on who should be taking over his place. Though the situation was not in favor of Solomon, the Lord changes it all. The Lord himself changes everything upside down at the last minute and anonites Solomon to be the King. In I Kings 1:40 ‘And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.’ Even in our lives, we should not quit by looking at negative things. We should put our trust in the Lord God who is faithful to deliver us even at the last minute. Amen.
